• Locks decked with flowers along the length of the trail
• Canal birds
The canal offers a moist environment that attracts numerous species of aquatic birds, which mate and nest along the towpaths, in shallow ditches and the adjacent marshes, as well as in neighbouring pools. A little patience and a good pair of binoculars are the order of the day if you want to spot great crested grebes, grey herons, belted kingfishers, grey wagtails, black kites and many other species. Winter is the most interesting season for bird spotting.

• Les Etangs de Baye and de Vaux
These pools, which are linked to the canal, were created in the 19th century and provide a haven for a remarkable ecological environment that visitors can discover at any time of year thanks to specially signed trails. Classified as “Protected Natural Areas”, visitors are asked to respect the fragile nature of these pools.
• The Voûtes de La Collancelle
Hidden away under the dense vegetation lies a 2,500-foot-long tunnel, a reminder that this canal, despite its wild appearance, is man-made.
