Le Rioussat vineyard in Livry
Small vineyard in the south of Nevers near Saint-Pierre on the banks of the Allier.
It produces a small quantity of red wine (Pinot Noir and Gamay), a white Chardonnay, a grey and a rosé.
Tannay vineyard
In the Yonne valleys, in the south of Clamecy, this vineyard produces white, red and rosé wines on a small area of land.
Charolais meat, symbol of quality
Beef for the most part, occasionally lamb, but always top quality, as authenticated by the famous Label Rouge, Charolais meat enjoys a worldwide reputation and a unique marbled flavour that you are sure to appreciate.
In Nièvre, breeders ensure that a long-standing tradition that respects the pride of the department and its farming heritage is upheld.
Recognizable by their white coats and short, stocky frames, Charolais cattle graze peacefully across the pastures of Nevers.
Local cheese
Originating from the banks of the Loire, the Crottin de Chavignol is an AOC-classified goat’s cheese that draws its distinct character from the local region.
This time-honoured cheese is eaten semi-dry, blueish, blue and dry. Depending on its maturity, an infinite variety of savours are waiting to be discovered.
In Nièvre, enjoy this cheese accompanied by other rustic varieties such as Le Nivernais with a deliciously soft centre produced from unpasteurized cow’s milk.
Salt meat
Boasting a taste of authenticity, quality and variety, salt meats and sliced meats from Nièvre are sure to satisfy any palate. Terrines and hams from Morvan and andouillettes (chitterling sausages) from Clamecy to enjoy on-site or take home.
Sweets
Nièvre will make your mouth water with its traditional confectionery – but the recipes are a closely guarded secret! In Nevers, Négus, Nougatine and Petit Marinier take pride of place for a delectable snack. Give in to temptation!
Honey
Nièvre is home to many beekeepers, especially in Morvan, where nine have been awarded the Produit du Parc du Naturel Régional du Morvan label for quality. The honeys are a result of the bees harvesting pollen from flowers specific to the Morvan region – wild flowers, chestnuts, acacia forests, meadows, clover, dandelions, brambles and many other blooms.
